About Our Partners
Washington Reading Corps
AHAS is the site for teacher education for reading support tutors who participate in the Washington Reading Corps at ESD 112. Meanwhile, Washington Reading Corps members tutor individual readers, support literacy activities during AHAS sessions, and promote family literacy among AHAS participants.
AHAS Scholars
Students who participate as AHAS Scholars provide 300, 450, 675, or 900 hours of volunteer service to AHAS. Through the ESD 112 LINKS program, AHAS Scholars receive educational awards for their service. In 2008, AHAS Scholars will receive about $15,000, total, in funds that can be used to pay back student loans or pay tuition at any time in the next 7 years.
SHARE
In their mission of feeding and housing poor and homeless individuals and families, SHARE provides breakfast and lunch during the AHAS summer program, and SHARE shelters are the sites for AHAS school-year tutoring in shelters programs. All students who are homeless, whether sheltered or unsheltered, are guaranteed enrollment in any of the AHAS programs.
Columbia Springs Environmental Education Center
AHAS Outdoors is funded by a Washington State Parks and Recreation Grant to a partnership between AHAS and Columbia Springs Environmental Education Center.
Kwamba Productions
AHAS and Kwamba Productions have partnered on many educational outreach projects that serve homeless children, adults, and families. Kwamba's mission is to promote social change by illuminating social issues through digital imagery and technology. Kwamba workshops put cameras and technological communication in the hands of AHAS students, whether in upper elementary, middle and high school, or adult learners in teacher education.
