AHAS Social Justice Scholars

AHAS Social Justice Scholars provide educational support services for the At Home At School (AHAS) program at Washington State University Vancouver. Scholars receive "educational awards" of between $1000 and $1800 for the volunteer support for AHAS. Recipients of these scholarships are current students of WSUV and recent graduates who have been consistent volunteers with AHAS. Specific responsibilities include:
- Recruitment, enrollment, and orientation of volunteers, community supporters, K-12 students and their parents, under supervision of program director;
- Lead small groups of students in activities, under supervision of program director, university faculty, or lead teachers;
- Assist students with all aspects of curriculum delivery, including color group activities, quality of life inventories, drama production, student video and photography projects, mural painting efforts, quilt and bridge construction efforts, production of daily performance and weekly newsletter by children for parents, volunteers, and others in the AHAS community of supporters, as needed;
- Regular contacts with students in the role of mentor, including student and parent contacts;
- Assistance with data collection consistent with funding sources reporting requirements;
- Participate in parent organization recruitment, communication, meetings, etc.;
- Assist with recruitment, organization, implementation, and maintenance of community-centered art and educational enrichment supplies and services;
- Computer-based record keeping that supports the completion of projects and responsibilities listed above;
