AHAS Tutoring

AHAS Tutoring is a school year program that provides homework support, arts instruction, and family literacy education in two family shelters.

This program depends upon volunteer participation. Tutors participate in an orientation session before entering the field and are offered support and supplies for their instructional needs. Reports are made to the AHAS Director for use in communicating with teachers and other community workers about the educational needs of students living in shelters, options for homework that are inclusive of children living in shelter, and support for students seeking other forms of educational support (e.g., special education services).
